Kindsbach

I realized today that I have very few pictures up of our actual town: Kindsbach. Here are some pictures in an around our lovely little town - it was a bit rainy today, but that makes the pictures all the more normal for the setting.

Above is the trail that Cody and I like to walk after dinner at least twice a week. On the other side of the green fence is the town's soccer field. There are NO parking places in our neighborhood on Sunday's because of the soccer crowd - it drives Cody nuts.

Just some rolling hills and scenery along the walk. Below is the town church - we can hear the bells ringing on Sunday.

Today I detoured from the usual walk and was rewarded by finding the town's little lake, complete with a railed-off shallow section for kids, a boat-house where you can rent little canoes, and a neat little playground.

Below are some pictures of the road that leads to our house.

And, last but not least, our vine covered home by the forest.

  2. Lived in Kindsbach for three years back in the early 90s. Made good friends with the Scheithe family (Steigstrasse) and have visited them numerous times since. As a matter of fact, my wife and I are travelling to Kindsbach in February for two weeks. Kindsbach is one of our favorite places in the world and seeing your pictures--we cannot wait to get back there.

  3. Kindsbach is still as lovely as I remember it. I lived with my family in the outskirts of Landstuhl nearly 50 years ago and used to ride my bicycle to visit a friend who lived in Kindsbach. Pleasing to see so little has changed. I now live in a small town in southeastern Arizona - very different and not nearly so green. Thank you for the pictures.

  5. great memories come back to me, when I was stationed at Ramstein AFB, but did most of my duty in kinsbach, at the COC cave center.. I remember great little gasthaus across from the gate, named "Erika's", and later she relocated to the lake in kinsbach, with the pond, and park.. I was there in the late 60's, from 64-67, met a colonel's daughter, romanced her for three year, got married, and moved back to the states, great times, at kinsbach, and also in landsthul...

    1. I also was stationed at Ramstein AB from Jan. 1971-August 1973. I worked at the Kindsbach cave in communications at the 2135th. Always love seeing pictures of any town from around there. There were 2 great eating places in Kindsbach back then. A gasthaus and a pizzeria. Great schneitzel dinners.

  16. I was stationed at Panzer Kaserne from 67/68 and lived off post, in Kindsbach, with my wife in a small apartment above a home. Can't remember the location but the pictures sure remind me of the main street going through town. Played many rounds of golf at Ramstein, AFB.

  17. Thank you for posting the beautiful pictures of Kindsbach. I too lived there as a military wife ( Army ). We lived in a couple of towns while there. The then husband who is now an ex. / and deceased was a chaplains' assistant. I played for all the military Sunday church services and also funerals.

I remember s special day set aside and it was a religous event. The town was decorated w/ all flower pedals and we walked behind the priest. Don't remember the name of this event but seemed to only be in Kindsbach.Maybe someone can help w/ what that ceremonys' name was. It was in 1968. So so beautiful. The husband was staioned at Vogelweh Army Base and we would go to Ramstein AFB after church. There was an A&W root beer stand but don't remember exactly where eactly its' location. We lived in an upstairs house w/ a German landlady who was a nurse. Prior we lived in Kaiserslatern.I spoke German fluently and knew the customs and of ccourse the currency. I learned in 2 weeks.

I sure miss the beautiful town of Kindsbach. When looking out the back window or going to the back of the house especially on a day when it was blanketed w/ snow the locomotive trains would go by. I wish I could return.
I am glad I looked up Kindsbach and found this site. Again thank you for sharing the pictures and for allowing us to blog about our times in Gernaby.

  18. Loved your photos. I lived on Hornchenstrasse from Jan 02 to Nov 05, while I was stationed at Landstuhl. I used to walk up the mountain with my boxer way back into the woods. There was a crossroads (paths) with a house where the forestmeister lived. You could walk right over the shoulder of the mountain to Burg Nanstein.

I wish I could take my husband back to see it...

    1. I don't know of anything in Kindsbach, but there is a very charismatic, outreach-oriented Baptist church in the next town over, Einsiedlerhof - about a 5 minute drive away. They host bible studies and other community events - all in English (it's an American/military faith community). Here is their website:

Best of luck to your daughter and her husband!
